Life can get really rough at times. I recently had surgery and I’m still recovering from that, though the pain is easing up each day. So it felt really tough yesterday when my right eye started to bleed inside. I wasn’t sure what was going on, but I couldn’t see well through that eye. So here are a few words of encouragement for you from my heart.
(My apologies for the audio quality and the unpolished video. This is my first try to use the video feature here on Substack, and I obviously didn’t know the speaker will pick up moving items close to the mic. I will do a better job on future videos!!)
Here’s an Elisabeth Elliot quote for you: “It is always possible to be thankful for what is given rather than resentful over what is withheld. One attitude or the other becomes a way of life.”
So when Despair whispers words of discouragement in my ear, I can answer with the voice of Hope: “Christ in me can handle all of this and whatever this life brings.”
Refer to both Isaiah 53 and Isaiah 58.
Hang in there! Draw on the Living Water in a sun scorched land, so you can be like a well watered garden, a spring whose waters do not fail. (My version of this verse found in Isaiah 58.)
If you’re feeling discouraged or struggling emotionally, I created a video (without the audio problems like this video has) for a mental health summit called Ways to Be Proactive About Mental Health. If you message me, I’d be glad to share a link to this video. I think it’s about 30 minutes long or so, but it has some practical help and tools that might bless you. I’m a retired counselor in Oregon, and I still assist a few clients in my Tenderly Transformed Coaching practice.
Although life can get really bumpy at times, better times may be just around the corner. I have a sign above my desk that says, “Never give up!”
Here’s a quote that means a lot to me: “Measure thy life by loss and not by gain, not by the wine drunk but by the wine poured forth. For love’s strength standeth in love’s sacrifice and he that suffereth most hast most to give.” – Ugo Bassi
Blessings and love,
Sue
