I arrived early for an appointment located at the hospital this morning. The sign near the beautiful fountain and picnic tables says, “This is a place of healing. Please no smoking.”
I was thinking about what makes a place a place of healing?
Obviously, puffing on a cigarette, doesn’t make for a healing place. Though I am just here for a routine visit with my multiple sclerosis specialist, the sunshine streaming down on me, and the dappled sunlight from the tree near my table feel inviting…restorative even.
The breeze is fairly cold this morning but on my way here, I stopped to pay a large bill at the dentist. Life often involves responsibilities and expenses.
For a short time a few years ago, I rented an office space in their building. I loved that office…truly a place of healing and refuge for my counseling clients and I to meet with the Lord and with each other.
Nestled amongst trees, and beside a small stream, that office felt so inviting to me during that season of my life.
Newly married, I found that having somewhere peaceful to go away from our home was vital. Marriage felt like a huge adjustment, and indeed at our age it represented a very big change in lifestyle.
The tree pictured here was just outside that lower level office, and from the deck, I loved watching birds frolicking around and I loved to hear the gurgling stream.
I am sitting beside this other fountain and ‘stream’ on the hospital grounds as I write.
There’s something soothing about the sound of water.
What’s a place of healing for you?
I love to be outdoors and feel the soft caress of the breeze on my face, the gentle warmth of dappled sunlight on my skin. Cool air reminds me I am alive.
Psalm 139:2-3 reminds us:
“You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.”
Wherever you are today, He invites you into His Presence. We can come before the throne of grace boldly and He welcomes us with love and affection.
In His Loving Presence, I find comfort, peace, healing and hope.
The cares of this life float away. Above me, the breeze has intensified, and hundreds of green leaves flutter in the wind.
I love knowing I can allow the breath of His Spirit to gently lift and blow away my concerns.
I love Psalm 84:11 which says, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”
What’s on your heart today?
What concerns would you like to release to our gracious Heavenly Father?
It’s almost time for me to go check in for this appointment. Thanks for keeping me company for a few minutes as I enjoyed His Majesty and the wonder of His love.
Micah 4:12 says, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.”
My horse is my healing place, and of course, Colorado mountains. :-)
I 💯love that sign. Healing places are home and being in nature, xo
